shing mun redoubt
introduction
The Shing Mun Redoubt was a stronghold of Gin Drinkers Line, the British military defensive line against the Japanese invasion during the Battle of Hong Kong. The Line started from Gin Drinkers Bay in Kwai Chung and ended to Hebe Haven in Sai Kung, linking up the New Territories and Kowloon.
On 9 December 1941, the second day of Japanese invasion in Hong Kong, Shing Mun Redoubt fell within five hours due to the lack of British soldiers there and was occupied by the Japanese 228th Infantry Regiments.
On 25 December, Britain ultimately defeated in the Battle of Hong Kong and Governor Sir Mark Aitchison Young surrendered.
