Ng Tung Chai Waterfall

                                       A spectacular scenery in hk

Can you imagine that HK - this sleepless city with many Skyscrapers could have such a spectacular place. It is just simply amazing  This stream is a lovely valley with the highest waterfalls in Hong Kong, located in the north slopes of Tai Mo Shan(大帽山), the highest mountain in this city.
The falls are actually divided into 4 separate waterfalls - bottom, middle,  main, & Scatter falls.

The easiest way to go there is to take a minibus/taxi from Tai Po Train station and get off in Ng Tung Chai (village).

Yes, the sign here stated: Ng Tung Chai Village then the journey begins.

At first you will have to walk up from the village ( its a concerete footpath), passing some trees and you will see a temple complex.

If you see this sign with a weird typo 「滊水」 then it is a right route.

It is the last chance that you could get some soft drinks here :p

Fairly soon you will see a junction and then the bottom fall. So far it is still a honeymoon for the trekking, it is pretty east to walk. I suggest to keep walking and take a rest after the middle fall. ( Later it is pretty rough)

Here is the small little bottom fall.
DADA - the honey moon finished. From now on the trail is steep with lots of steps. The middle falls is pretty cool whereas the stream drops down a cliff face, to a pool ringed by boulders and then vanish into the mini gorge.

Most of the people are crowded in the main falls, so there were less people there.

It is  relaxing to just watch the fall and listen to the sound of water shooshing down. Look around and see no buildings or hear cars (and no internet !! - it linked to the China network already :D)  but RAVINE, TREES, and WATERFALL only . yay!

Ahead is the main fall - the prime waterfalls in HK. The trail is a bit steep zigzags and it takes around half hour from the midde fall.

When you actully see the main fall and you will understand what you just saw - the bottom and middle are just a supporting cast while the main faill is the star.
The fall is around 15 stories high, abosoultely stunning !! The waterfall plummets down to the cliffs at the rear of a natural amphitheatre while on either side forest clings to the steep slopes.

CAUTION:
# it is not deep enough for swimming.

# lots of moss which is really slippery. I saw lots of people falling down and the very first thing that they sai : " ahhhhh ... save my phone"  LOL.... then they are all wet .

The place that I recomment is not really related to much history but it's simply an amazing place to escape from the big city, rest for a while and enjoy the scenery. As a busy urbanite, when is the last time that you leave the "civilized world" and just enjoy the beauty of nature? It has been a while isnt it? What are you waiting for?!

Duration: About 3 hours. ( slow with resting)
Difficulty: to the bottom fall - Easy. To the Middle and Main fall - steep.
Appreciation: 4 stars because of the spectacular waterfalls in HK.
Transportation: Tai Wo MTR station, then minibus/ taxi/ bus to the Ng Tung Chai Village

PS: It is so hard and scary to take pictures. It is all selfies from I-PHONE with the innovative selfie-stick :D
