Tiu Keng Leng was originally called Rinnie's Mill. It was because a Canadian businessman, Alfred Herbert Rennie, established a milling factory in here in 1905. Tiu Keng Leng has a nickname "Hanging Ridge" because after the milling business failed, Rennie committed suicide by hanging himself according to the legend.

Now the time has changed to 1949. After KMT lost the civil war in 1949, there were many KMT soldiers and pro-KMT Chinese fled to Tiu Keng Leng from the communist. They settle here temporarily and waiting a chance to strike back. Of course we know that the chance never came, but not many people know that the president of the Republic of China, Ma Ying-jeou, was born in Tiu Keng Leng in 1950. Before 1997, the old resident would celebrate the national day of the Republic of China on every 10 OCT.   Therefore, Tiu Keng Leng was called "Little Taiwan"
